Summer Camp
An expedition from Drwano to Templin
The next summer camp is expected for 2024.
The crises of recent years have showed that tolerance, solidarity and democracy cannot be taken for granted in Europe. We believe that getting to know and understand each other is the key to creating and maintaining tolerance, solidarity, and democracy, which are the preconditions for open societies. In our camp we send youths from Poland, Ukraine (refugees), France, and Germany in mixed teams on a ten-day learning journey. Setting off in western Pomerania (Poland) they travel through unique landscapes on their way to Templin, the site of the future est. Together they meet the challenges that they encounter on this trip through the “wild.” On foot, by canoe, or by bicycle, the participants experience adventures, the power of acting together, and a sense of a European community. They spend the nights in camping sites or in the wild. They have to find their own food and plan their own meals. They are accompanied by experienced and multilingual wilderness educationalists. The common language of the journey is English.
We intend these summer camps to allow the European spirit to enter site of the future est well before the school actually opens. The project will be later incorporated into the est curriculum. In 2018 and 2019 we organised two very successful German-Polish summer camps, and in 2022, after a break due to Corona, we wanted to mark the 30th anniversary of the successful Weimar Triangle dialogue forum by also inviting French youths to the camp. After all, collaboration between these three nations has secured peace in Europe. Due to the war against Ukraine we also invited young refugees to join our camp at short notice.
