2nd benefit concert Sing-Akademie zu Berlin “DER SALON DER SARA LEVY”
Chamber choir of the Sing-Akademie zu Berlin
lautten compagney BERLIN
Kai-Uwe Jirka – musical director
Christian Filips – Moderation
The music collection of harpsichordist, patron and music collector Sara Levy (1761-1854) is one of the most important private collections of the late 18th century in Berlin. The Jewish salon lady preserved Johann Sebastian Bach’s work for posterity and commissioned compositions from his sons Friedemann and Carl Philipp Emanuel. She was instrumental in the founding of the Sing-Akademie zu Berlin and was friends with personalities such as Moses Mendelssohn, C.F. Zelter, Bettina von Arnim and Schleiermacher. In this concert, works from her archive, which is now part of the collections of both the Staatsbibliothek and the Sing-Akademie, will be exhibited and transformed into living sound. Repertoire performed during Levy’s lifetime, a cantata DAS WIEDERSEHEN by Maria Theresia von Paradis dedicated to the Itzig-Levy family (in a modern premiere) and music by her great-nephew Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, for whom she was a formative influence, will be heard.

Opening of the Uckermark Music Weeks
Of wonders and works
Capella de la Torre
Katharina Bäuml, conductor
Ensemble Kchun:
Marek Šulc, baritone
Martin Prokeš, tenor
You will hear works by
Josquin Desprez, Ludwig Senfl, Bartolomeo Tromboncino and others.
The Renaissance and previous eras were dominated by the history of salvation in Christian thought: everything that happens in the world serves to fulfill the divine plan of salvation that was predetermined from the beginning. Even suffering and misfortune are merely detours on this path and are often images of the Passion of Christ. The task of art is to represent the individual stages of the plan of salvation again and again and to bring them closer to people.
The concert by the Prague duo Kchun and the Capella de la Torre, featuring vocals, lute and the solemn Renaissance wind ensemble (shawm, pommer, trombone, dulcian), traces the course of salvation history using music from the 15th and 16th centuries for the festivals of the church year.

Open Monuments‘ Day
10 September 2023
The day began at 11 am with the opening of an exhibition by the umKunst group. The main ceremony in the courtyard began at 12 noon. This year the day was again a great success. Although it was very hot, we were able to welcome 700 cheerful visitors to our campus. Due to the weather the indoor activities turned out to be more popular this year.
The guests were ceremoniously welcomed by member of the German federal parliament Stefan Zierke and district administrator Karina Dörk. Entertainment was provided by Universal Druckluft Orchestra and a walking saxophone concert with Dirk Engelhardt as well as concerts by music school students from the Uckermark County Music School.
A particular highlight was a reading by a former Joachimsthales Gymnasium pupil on key events from 350 to 400 years of the school’s history. We also presented our reworked master plan together with the cornerstones of the est framework school concept. Children had fun with giant soap bubbles. There were also several themed guided tours of the grounds. Photos of the est could be posted at #Europaintemplin.
